Sugar, a little bleach and lemon or lime juice in lukewarm water to keep cut flowers fresh longer.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon household bleach
  • 2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice
  • 1 quart lukewarm water

Directions

  • Stir the ingredients into the vase water.

Notes

Safety: Use plain, unscented household bleach only and never mix bleach with other cleaners (especially ammonia or vinegar). Label any pre-mixed jug and keep it away from kids and pets; vase water with bleach should not be drunk by pets (cats often drink from vases). Wear gloves when measuring bleach.
