A pint jar of thin pasta and a creamy garlic-bouillon seasoning blend. Cook with water, milk and butter for a homemade version of a boxed favorite.
Ingredients
Jar mix
2cupsthin pasta (angel hair broken into 1-inch pieces, shells, or thin spaghetti)
¼cupnonfat dry milk powder (or soy milk powder)
1tablespoonbutter powder (optional)
2teaspoonschicken bouillon granules
1teaspoongarlic powder
½teaspoononion powder
½teaspoonparsley flakes
¼teaspoonblack pepper
1tablespooncornstarch
Directions
Pour the pasta into the bottom of a clean pint jar.
Stir the remaining dry ingredients together in a small bowl and pour them over the pasta.
Close tightly and label with the cooking directions.
Keep in a cool, dry pantry.
Notes
To cook: pour the jar into a large skillet. Add 2 cups water, 1 cup milk and 2 tablespoons butter. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer 10 to 12 minutes, stirring often, until pasta is tender and sauce thickens. Stand 5 minutes, stir, serve. Optional Parmesan or parsley on top.Notes: pull off the heat while the sauce still looks slightly loose. Stir Parmesan in at serving, not in the jar (it clumps). For a full meal add cooked chicken and frozen peas in the last 2 minutes.Safety: butter powder shortens shelf life.
