Ingredients

Jar mix
  • 2 cups thin pasta (angel hair broken into 1-inch pieces, shells, or thin spaghetti)
  • ¼ cup nonfat dry milk powder (or soy milk powder)
  • 1 tablespoon butter powder (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon granules
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon parsley flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • pint jars
  • skillet

Directions

  1. Pour the pasta into the bottom of a clean pint jar.
  2. Stir the remaining dry ingredients together in a small bowl and pour them over the pasta.
  3. Close tightly and label with the cooking directions.
  4. Keep in a cool, dry pantry.

Notes

To cook: pour the jar into a large skillet. Add 2 cups water, 1 cup milk and 2 tablespoons butter. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer 10 to 12 minutes, stirring often, until pasta is tender and sauce thickens. Stand 5 minutes, stir, serve. Optional Parmesan or parsley on top.
Notes: pull off the heat while the sauce still looks slightly loose. Stir Parmesan in at serving, not in the jar (it clumps). For a full meal add cooked chicken and frozen peas in the last 2 minutes.
Safety: butter powder shortens shelf life.
