Garbage disposal fresheners

Citrus peel, baking soda, salt and dish soap. Drop one in the disposal with cold water running.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 orange lemon, or lime
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ¾ cup of salt
  • 1 tsp. dish soap (uncolored)
  • Optional: a few drops citrus essential oil
  • Silicone mold; glass canister for storage

Directions

  • Grate the citrus peel.
  • Stir the baking soda, salt and dish soap together well, then mix in the peel (and oil, if using).
  • Gradually add just enough citrus juice for the mix to feel like wet sand and hold its shape when squeezed.
  • Press it firmly into the mold.
  • Leave 4-5 hours (or overnight) to dry.
  • Pop out and keep in a clean, dry glass canister.

Notes

Drop 1 or 2 pods into the disposal, run it, then rinse with hot water.
Safety: label the canister — pods look like candy or bath bombs; keep away from kids and pets. Never mix with bleach or drain cleaners in the disposal.
