What You’ll Need

  • 1 orange lemon, or lime
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ¾ cup of salt
  • 1 tsp. dish soap (uncolored)
  • Optional: a few drops citrus essential oil
  • Silicone mold; glass canister for storage

Equipment

  • mixing bowl

Directions

  1. Grate the citrus peel.
  2. Stir the baking soda, salt and dish soap together well, then mix in the peel (and oil, if using).
  3. Gradually add just enough citrus juice for the mix to feel like wet sand and hold its shape when squeezed.
  4. Press it firmly into the mold.
  5. Leave 4-5 hours (or overnight) to dry.
  6. Pop out and keep in a clean, dry glass canister.

Notes

Drop 1 or 2 pods into the disposal, run it, then rinse with hot water.
Safety: label the canister — pods look like candy or bath bombs; keep away from kids and pets. Never mix with bleach or drain cleaners in the disposal.
