Toilet bowl fizzies

Baking soda, citric acid, orange zest and essential oils. Drop one in the bowl, let it fizz, then scrub.

What You’ll Need

  • 1½ cups baking soda
  • ½ cup citric acid
  • 1 orange zested (optional)
  • 25 drops orange essential oil or lemon essential oil
  • 24 drops lavender essential oil
  • 1-2 tsp. water
  • Silicone mold (the solid half of a ball ice cube mold); fine mist spray bottle (optional)

Directions

  • Mix the baking soda, citric acid and orange zest in a large bowl.
  • Add the essential oils and stir well.
  • Work in the water ½ tsp at a time (a fine mister works best), mixing with your fingers, until the mix sticks together when squeezed but is only just damp.
  • Press it firmly into the mold, pushing out all the air.
  • Leave to dry overnight, pop out carefully, and keep airtight.

Notes

Drop 1 to 2 fizzies into the bowl, let fizz 5 minutes, swish with a toilet brush, and flush.
Safety: they look like candy or bath bombs — label clearly (toilet cleaner, not for bath or eating), store high and closed, away from kids and pets. Citric acid irritates eyes and skin; wear gloves. Don't use with bleach toilet cleaners in the bowl.
