Offer Suet on Cold Days

Suet is pure energy for woodpeckers, nuthatches and chickadees when insects are scarce. Hang a suet cage near a tree trunk where woodpeckers feel safe, and keep it out of direct afternoon sun so it doesn’t soften. A cage that opens only from below discourages starlings.
