Flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil mixed with boiling water into soft playdough without a stove.
What You’ll Need
- 2 cups plain all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- up to 1.5 cups boiling water added gradually until the texture feels right
- food colouring (optional)
- a few drops glycerine (optional, for shine)
Equipment
- mixing bowl
Directions
- Stir the flour, salt, cream of tartar, and oil together in a large mixing bowl.
- Pour in the boiling water.
- Keep stirring until a sticky dough comes together.
- Mix in food colouring and glycerine, if using.
- Allow the dough to cool, then lift it out of the bowl and knead hard for a couple of minutes until it is no longer sticky (“the most important part of the process”).
- If it is still a little sticky, work in a bit more flour.
Notes
Store in an airtight container for at least 6 months. In a humid climate, refrigerate and keep out of sunlight.
Safety: NOT a food. No-cook still uses boiling water, so an adult pours and stirs until it cools. High salt: keep away from dogs and don’t let kids eat it. Contains wheat.
