What You’ll Need

  • Broken crayons paper removed, cut into pea-size pieces (enough to fill each muffin cup 1/2 to 3/4 full)

Equipment

  • muffin pan
  • baking sheet

Directions

  1. Cover your work area with newspaper and heat the oven to 200°F.
  2. Peel off the crayon papers (score them with a knife if they’re stubborn), sort by color, and break the crayons into pea-size pieces.
  3. Set a mini muffin pan, silicone if you have one, on an old cookie sheet and fill each cup 1/2 to 3/4 full.
  4. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, until melted. Swirl with a toothpick if you like.
  5. Let them cool 30 minutes to 1 hour, then pop them out. If they stick, put the pan in the freezer for a few minutes.

Notes

Kids can draw with them like regular crayons. Melting is a grown-up job: hot wax burns, so use oven mitts.
