Ingredients

  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • ⅛ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ Tbsp salted butter
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
  • 6–8 vanilla wafers
  • 1 banana
  • Whipped cream optional topping

Equipment

  • saucepan
  • whisk
  • mixing bowl

Directions

  1. Warm the milk, sugar, and salt in a 1-quart pot over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until steaming.
  2. In a bowl, stir the cornstarch into the heavy cream until it dissolves completely. Slowly whisk it into the hot milk.
  3. Lower the heat and stir for about 5 minutes, until the pudding coats a spoon.
  4. Take the pot off the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla. Press plastic wrap right onto the surface and let the pudding cool to room temperature.
  5. Line a small dessert bowl with the wafers. Add the sliced banana, then spoon the cooled pudding on top to cover the fruit.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours. Top with whipped cream if you like.
