Ingredients

Dry mix (layer in a 1-quart jar in this order)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup + 1/8 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 cups quick oats
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
For baking
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • airtight jar
  • baking sheet

Directions

  1. Add the ingredients to a 1-quart jar in the order listed (they settle in layers, and mixing them first leaves the jar underfilled). In a very warm climate, or if the jar is full, pack the chips separately in a baggie.
  2. To bake: in a large bowl, stir together the butter, egg, and vanilla, then add the mix and blend well and fold in the chips.
  3. Drop scoops onto a parchment-lined sheet and bake at 400°F for about 11 minutes, until the edges are golden.

Notes

Baked cookies: airtight at room temperature, or freeze extras. Variations: raisins, chopped nuts, cranberries, or more chips.
