Ingredients

  • 6-8 tablespoons loose-leaf tea or 24-32 regular single-serve tea bags, or 6-8 family-size tea bags
  • 3 quarts purified water
  • Optional: fresh herbs, citrus slices, fresh fruit, or thinly sliced ginger

Equipment

  • pitcher
  • fine sieve

Directions

  1. Put the water and tea in a large pitcher made of glass, plastic or ceramic. Lightly crush any fruit or herbs you are adding first.
  2. Cover and chill in the refrigerator. Let it steep 8-12 hours, then taste; go up to 24 hours total for a stronger tea, or 4-6 hours for a lighter one.
  3. Lift out the tea bags, or strain out the leaves and add-ins.
  4. Serve cold, with or without ice, and sweeten to your taste.

Notes

Store covered in the refrigerator and drink within a week (within 5 days with fresh add-ins). Contains caffeine unless herbal tea is used.
