Coffee ground tea and Epsom salts for tomatoes, used as a liquid feed through the season.
What You’ll Need
Coffee ground tea
- 2 cups used coffee grounds
- 5 gallons water
Diluted Epsom salts solution
- Epsom salts about 1 tablespoon per gallon of water
Equipment
- mixing bowl
Directions
- Coffee ground tea: Soak 2 cups of used grounds in 5 gallons of water and use the liquid as fertilizer for tomatoes. (You can also mulch with a 1/2 inch layer of used grounds, or mix them into the soil before planting.)
- Epsom salts: Dissolve about 1 tablespoon in each gallon of water instead of sprinkling the salts on dry. Apply at planting, then no more than once a month; it can also be used as a foliar spray.
Notes
Coffee grounds are nitrogen-heavy (use in moderation) and Epsom salt overuse can cause more problems than it solves; test soil before applying.
Safety: Coffee grounds are toxic to dogs and cats; keep pets out of treated beds.
