What You’ll Need

  • 5 oz of beeswax
  • 2 oz of coconut oil
  • Candle wicks
  • (3) 4 oz mason jars
  • Double boiler (or a pan or bowl over heat) used only for wax
  • 3 pencils or chopsticks to hold the wicks

Equipment

  • double boiler
  • mason jars

Directions

  1. Bring the water in the double boiler to a boil.
  2. Measure out the beeswax and coconut oil. Melt the beeswax first, grating or chopping it to speed things up.
  3. Set wicks in the jars, dabbing melted wax on the bottom to hold them in the center, and wrap the tops around pencils to keep them upright.
  4. Stand the jars on paper towels or newspaper.
  5. Once the beeswax has melted completely, stir in the coconut oil.
  6. Pour quickly but carefully into the jars, only up to the first lip, which leaves about 1 inch of headspace.
  7. Leave them to cool and set for 48 hours.
  8. Trim the wicks, then burn the candles, or put lids on and store them.

Notes

Light natural scent, with no added fragrance. Trim wicks to about 1/4 inch before each burn. Safety: melt wax only in a double boiler, never unattended; keep kids away from hot wax. Never leave a burning candle unattended; burn on a heat-safe surface away from drafts, curtains, kids and pets; stop when about 1/2 inch of wax remains.
