What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup play sand or colored craft sand
  • ½ cup school glue (PVA glue)
  • 2 teaspoons dish soap
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Equipment

  • mixing bowl

Directions

  1. Mix the sand, dish soap, and cornstarch in a bowl until evenly blended.
  2. Pour in the glue a little at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Knead by hand until smooth and easy to mold. Too dry: add more glue. Too sticky: add more cornstarch.
  4. For color, use colored craft sand, or plain sand with food coloring.

Notes

Keep in an airtight container or zip-top bag; lasts several weeks of play. If it dries out, knead in a little more glue or dish soap. Standard dish soap works better than natural brands. Play in a deep bin or over a sheet.
Safety: NOT edible (non-toxic but not edible). Supervise younger children; keep sand out of eyes and mouths.
