Classic Cobb Mason Jar Salad
Ingredients
- Dressing batch: 1/3 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise
- 1/3 cup nonfat buttermilk or milk
- 1/3 cup nonfat plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp tarragon or white vinegar
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
- Use 2 tbsp of finished dressing per salad
- 2 tbsp chopped cucumber
- 2 tbsp chopped tomato
- 2 tbsp diced red onion
- 1 oz chopped deli ham
- 1 oz chopped deli turkey
- 1 hard-boiled egg diced
- 1 slice crisp bacon crumbled
- 1/2 avocado diced
- 1 tsp lime juice
- 1 tbsp crumbled blue cheese
- 1 1/2 cups chopped romaine
Equipment
- quart jar
- mixing bowl
- whisk
- cutting board
Directions
- Prepare: Whisk the dressing ingredients until creamy, mashing in the blue cheese. Measure 2 tbsp for the jar and save the rest. Cook the egg and bacon and let them cool. Toss the diced avocado in lime juice.
- Assemble: Layer the dressing, cucumber, tomato, red onion, ham, turkey, egg, bacon, avocado, blue cheese, and lettuce in that order.
- Store: Refrigerate right away; it is best eaten within 1–2 days because of the avocado and the prepared meats and egg.
- Serve: Stand the jar upright until you are ready to eat. Empty it into a bowl, toss with the dressing, and serve cold.
