Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cold salted butter cut into ¼-inch cubes
  • ½ cup milk

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • baking sheet

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Whisk the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Work in the cold butter with your fingertips or a pastry cutter until it looks like coarse crumbs. Work quickly so the butter stays cold.
  3. Pour in the milk and stir just until a soft dough comes together.
  4. Drop the dough onto the baking sheet in 4 mounds, leaving space between them. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly browned.
