  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 medium green pepper chopped
  • ¾ cup ketchup

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

  • 4 hamburger buns

Equipment

  • skillet
  • cutting board

Directions

  1. Cook the ground beef, onion, and green pepper in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking up the meat, until the beef is browned and the vegetables are soft. Drain off the fat.
  2. Stir in the ketchup, water, sugar, mustard, and vinegar.
  3. Let it simmer, uncovered, for about 15 minutes, stirring now and then, until the sauce is thick enough to stay on a bun.
  4. Taste, then season with salt and pepper.
  5. Spoon onto the buns and serve hot.

Leftover filling keeps in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and freezes well in a flat freezer bag.
