Baking soda, arrowroot, shea butter and essential oils. Pack into a tube or jar; patch test first.
What You’ll Need
- 3 tbsp baking soda (if too strong, decrease by 1 tablespoon and increase the arrowroot by 1 tablespoon)
- 5 tbsp arrowroot powder (or non-GMO cornstarch)
- 6 tbsp shea butter
- 30-60 drops essential oil (optional: tea tree, frankincense, lavender, or patchouli; skip for fragrance-free)
- Deep bowl fork, hand mixer, clean 4 ounce glass jar
Equipment
- mixing bowl
- mason jars
Directions
- Stir the baking soda and arrowroot together in a deep bowl.
- Use your hands or a fork to work in the shea butter until it looks like very crumbly dough. Add the essential oil, if using.
- Whip with a hand mixer (it looks too dry at first but will come together; the deep bowl keeps the powder from flying out).
- Spoon into the clean glass jar.
Notes
Rub a pea-sized amount into the underarm until invisible; wait a few minutes before dressing. Optional: dust a little arrowroot over it with a brush kept for this. Store at room temperature; lasts at least one year in a cool, dry place. baking soda irritates some people’s skin: reduce it by 1.5 tablespoons and add the same amount of arrowroot, or replace it with bentonite clay (or diatomaceous earth), and wait for irritation to clear before trying again. Over-applying can stain clothing. Safety: patch test; not on freshly shaved or broken skin; tea tree oil is toxic to pets; if using diatomaceous earth, avoid breathing the dust.
