Ingredients

  • ½ cup instant coffee granules
  • ½ cup dry milk powder (non-dairy creamer works as a dairy-free swap)
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar (sugar-free alternatives can be used)
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • pint jars

Directions

  1. Put everything in a pint jar, following the yield amounts.

Notes

Hot mocha: stir 2 tablespoons of mix into 8 ounces of hot water or hot milk until dissolved. Iced mocha: dissolve 2 tablespoons of mix in 2 tablespoons of hot water, stir in 6 ounces of cold milk, pour over ice. Frappe: dissolve 2 tablespoons of mix in 1 tablespoon of hot water, then blend with ¾ cup cold milk and 1 to 1½ cups ice; optional vanilla and chocolate syrup. Storage: sealed jar in a cool, dry pantry up to about six months, away from steam; shake before use (cocoa settles). A label with the ratio and frappe method makes a nice gift tag. Alternative flavored mocha mix: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup instant coffee, 1 cup instant milk powder, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 4 tablespoons Coffee-Mate powder, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp cinnamon; use 3 tsp per cup of boiling water. Contains caffeine and dairy powder.
