What You’ll Need

  • An even number of fresh lavender stems: 18, 22 or 26 (longer stems are easier)
  • 5/8-in.-wide ribbon 1-1/2 to 2 yards per bundle

Equipment

  • scissors

Directions

  1. Gather the stems and tie a knot just below the flowers with one end of the ribbon, letting the rest hang loose.
  2. Flip the bundle upside down and bend each stem down over the flowers, spacing them evenly, to form a loose cage. Slightly wilted lavender bends more easily.
  3. Pull the ribbon out from the center and weave it over two stems and under two, working from the top down and keeping it snug. At the bottom of the flowers, wind it around the stems a few times and tie a bow.
  4. Let it dry for a week or two. As it shrinks, tighten the ribbon again from the top down and retie it at the bottom.

Notes

Store in a drawer or closet; squeeze the wand when the scent fades. Flowers stay inside the cage as they dry. Safety: lavender is toxic to cats and dogs if eaten; keep wands out of reach of pets and small children.
