Recycled glass jars with wire hangers made from a coat hanger, lit with candles or LED lights.
What You’ll Need
- Needle nose pliers and wire cutters
- Eye goggles
- Dry cleaner’s wire hangers (for the handles)
- Softer wire 16 gauge (about 1.25 mm), for shaping around the rim
- Wire about 12″ long per jar (for the neck hanger)
- Recycled glass jars
- Candles: real or LED tea candles, or LED fairy lights
Equipment
- mason jars
Directions
- Make the jar hanger: cut a piece of wire about 12″ long. With needle nose pliers, bend a loop at the midpoint. Wrap the wire around the neck of the jar until the two ends meet on the side opposite the first loop. Twist the ends together, bend a second small loop, and trim off the extra wire. Shape the ends so they point inward.
- Make the handle: cut the dry cleaner’s hanger to size as needed. Using the neck of the jar as a guide, bend the straight piece in the middle to form a curved top with straight sides. With pliers, shape a curved hook at each end. Hook the handle onto the two wire loops at the neck of the jar and close the hooks.
- Add a candle or LED light.
Notes
Safety: wear eye protection (wire can snap out of your hand); be careful with fire and heat; never leave lights or candles unattended; use quality lights. LED tea candles or fairy lights suggested instead of flame. For a true hardwired pendant, use a UL-listed pendant light kit and follow its instructions.
