A mason jar with a pincushion lid made from fabric and stuffing, holding needles, thread and notions inside.
What You’ll Need
- A mason jar with ring and lid pint size jar
- Polyfil “just a small hand full”
- Needle and thread
- Small piece of felt the size of the lid
- Fabric printed with a sewing machine graphic (or stamped or plain fabric)
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and stick
Equipment
- mason jars
- hot glue gun
- scissors
Directions
- Print the sewing machine graphic onto fabric (or rubber stamp an image, or use any fabric you like).
- Use the jar ring as a guide to cut the fabric into a circle, with the graphic in the center and about 1 1/2 inches of extra fabric all around.
- Hand-stitch around the whole circle, close to the edge.
- Pull the thread gently so the circle gathers into a cup shape.
- Fill the cup with a small amount of polyfil.
- Set the lid on top and pull the gathers tight to keep the stuffing in.
- Sew a couple of stitches to hold it, then knot and trim the thread.
- Run hot glue under the edge of the fabric, then along the whole top edge and across the middle.
- Press the felt circle onto the glue to hide the edges and hold the fabric down.
- Put thread (and sewing supplies) in the jar and screw on the lid (with the fabric cushion pushed up through the ring).
Notes
About five minutes. Pins and needles: keep away from small children. Hot glue is an adult step.
