Dish soap, cornstarch and water cooked into a thick paint, colored and used on the tub walls at bath time.
What You’ll Need
- 1 cup dish soap
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup water
- Food coloring (or tempera or another water-based colorant)
Equipment
- saucepan
- mixing bowl
Directions
- In a saucepan, stir the cornstarch into the cold water until smooth and dissolved. Heat, stirring all the time, until it boils.
- Stir in the soap. Heat on medium until it just begins to boil. It turns gel-like as it cools.
- Mix in food coloring.
- Store in an airtight container. It separates a little, so stir before each use.
Notes
Test on a small patch of tub first so the color doesn’t stain.
Safety: NOT edible. Adult does the stovetop step and lets it cool fully. Use a mild soap the child doesn’t react to (scented hand soap; kids coat themselves in it). Keep out of eyes; soap makes the tub slippery. Never leave a young child alone in the bath.
