  • 2 oz. (approx. 2 tbsp.) coconut oil
  • 1 oz. (approx. 1 tbsp.) shea butter
  • 4 tsp. beeswax
  • 21-24 lip balm tubes OR 6 1-oz. tins; small pot or double boiler; small kitchen scale (optional)

Equipment

  • double boiler

Directions

  1. Warm the oils, shea butter and beeswax in a small pot or double boiler over low heat, stirring constantly, until completely melted and mixed.
  2. Carefully pour into tubes or tins.
  3. Leave on the counter until hard.
  4. Put on the caps and add labels.

Notes

Apply as a preventive or to soften dry paw pads or noses. Keep away from extreme heat; use within 1 to 2 years. Safety: hot wax and oil burn — pour carefully. Dogs lick their paws, so keep it to food-grade oils and don’t add essential oils. Tree nut oil (sweet almond) — skip for dogs with nut sensitivities.
