What You’ll Need

  • 32 oz. Baking Soda
  • 16 oz. Citric Acid
  • 4 oz. Extra Fine Epsom Salt
  • 2 oz. Borage Oil
  • 0.7 oz. Polysorbate 80
  • 0.3 oz. Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil
  • About 12 drops Lilac La Bomb Colorant
  • Dried Lavender (a pinch per bomb)
  • Witch Hazel in a Spray Bottle
  • Stainless steel bath bomb mold; gloves

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • mason jars

Directions

  1. In a small container, stir together the borage oil, polysorbate 80, lavender essential oil, and colorant (the color won’t blend in completely).
  2. In a large container, mix the baking soda and citric acid, sifting them or breaking up lumps with your fingers; add the Epsom salt and stir well.
  3. Pour in the oil mixture and work it in thoroughly with your hands.
  4. It should feel like wet sand and keep its shape when squeezed; if it is too dry, spritz with witch hazel as you mix until it holds.
  5. Drop a pinch of dried lavender into the center of one mold half.
  6. Fill both halves, pressing gently, then press the two halves firmly together.
  7. Twist and lift off the top half; set it back on, flip it over, and twist off the other half.
  8. Set the bombs on a counter, in a large muffin tin, or on foam so they won’t roll; leave to dry and harden overnight.

Notes

Use in hot bath water. Polysorbate 80 helps the oils disperse in the water instead of floating. Safety: wear gloves and avoid breathing the dust; keep dry; tub may be slippery; keep away from young children who might mouth them; not for internal use.
