What You’ll Need

  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup turbinado sugar
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil unmelted
  • 1/3 cup shea butter unmelted
  • 5-10 drops essential oil of your choice (rose absolute and blood orange)
  • Small mixing bowl hand mixer, airtight container

Equipment

  • hand mixer
  • mason jars

Directions

  1. Put the sugars, coconut oil, and shea butter in a small bowl (if the coconut oil has melted, chill it until solid first).
  2. Whip with a hand mixer until light and fluffy like frosting, about 5-10 minutes, scraping down the sides often.
  3. Add the essential oil and mix until completely blended (vitamin E or honey can go in now).
  4. Spoon into an airtight container and keep in a cool, dry place.

Notes

On clean, damp skin after a shower or bath, massage a quarter-sized amount in gentle circles on rough spots (elbows, knees, feet); rinse with warm water, pat dry; follow with moisturizer if needed. Once or twice a week. Keeps up to 6 months airtight in a cool, dry place.
Safety: avoid the eye area and broken or irritated skin, patch test first, and note that coconut oil can bother acne-prone skin (shea alone can be used). Blood orange oil can cause sun sensitivity; oil makes the tub slippery.
