Ingredients

  • 1 cup stale bread pieces* (*use sturdy bread, not soft sandwich bread; cut into 1/2-inch cubes)
  • 1/4 cup pre-cooked chopped sausage
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped vegetables
  • 2 Tbsp shredded cheese
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 3 Tbsp milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Equipment

  • mug
  • cutting board

Directions

  1. Cut the bread into 1/2-inch cubes. Chop the meat and vegetables finely, and shred the cheese.
  2. Put the butter in the bottom of a large mug (10-12 oz). Microwave on high for 20 seconds, until completely melted. Use a fork to whisk in the milk, egg, salt and pepper.
  3. Stir in the meat, vegetables and cheese first, then gently fold in the bread cubes until they are completely soaked.
  4. Let the mug sit for one minute so the bread soaks up the liquid.
  5. Microwave on high for about 90 seconds, until the center is set and the edges begin to pull away from the mug. Serve hot.

Notes

Prep 4 minutes, cook 1 minute. Safety: the egg must be fully set in the center.
