Baking soda, citric acid, borax and essential oils pressed into molds. Drop one in, let it fizz, scrub and flush.
What You’ll Need
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 1/2 cup Citric Acid
- 1/8 cup Borax optional
- 20 drops each Lemon Juniper Berry, Sweet Orange, and Lavender essential oil
- Peppermint hydrosol (about 5 spritzes, then more as needed)
- Glass or stainless bowl wooden spoon, soap mold or ice cube tray, airtight jar
Equipment
- mixing bowl
Directions
- Stir the baking soda, citric acid and borax together with a wooden spoon.
- Add each essential oil 20 drops at a time, stirring well after each addition.
- Spritz in about 5 sprays of hydrosol and stir; keep adding a little at a time (too fast and it fizzes and melts) until the mix is just damp enough to pack.
- Press into molds, leaving a little room because it puffs up slightly.
- Dry for several hours or overnight, then pop out.
- Keep airtight.
Notes
Drop one in the bowl, let it fizz, scrub and flush. One in a bucket of water also works as a surface cleaner, or in hot water to clean a tub or shower.
Safety: mix in a ventilated room, consider a mask, and keep out of reach of children and pets. These look like bath bombs or candy, so label clearly and store high. With borax and essential oils, skip using them to freshen toys that go in mouths.
