Willow twigs steeped overnight in boiling water to make a natural rooting liquid for cuttings.
What You’ll Need
- About two cups of pencil-thin willow branches cut in 1 inch to 3 inch lengths
- Half-gallon of boiling water
- Jar with a tight-fitting lid and a label
Equipment
- mason jars
Directions
- Leave the willow twigs to steep in the boiling water overnight. (Alternatively, soak them in lukewarm water for 24 to 48 hours.)
- Soak cuttings in the liquid overnight, or pour it over the soil around cuttings that are already planted. Two applications should be enough.
- Some cuttings will root right in a jar of willow water.
Notes
Store in a labeled, tightly lidded jar in the refrigerator; effective up to two months.
Safety: Adult handles the boiling water. Label the jar and keep it on a separate fridge shelf so no one drinks it. Only cut willow where you have permission.
