What You’ll Need

  • 1 apple sliced into wedges
  • 2 whole star anise (or a big pinch of anise seed)
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick broken in half
  • 3 slices fresh ginger about the size of quarters
  • Water

Equipment

  • saucepan

Directions

  1. Put the ingredients in a small pot and fill it with water to about one inch below the rim.
  2. Bring it to a boil, then turn it down to low and let it simmer.
  3. Simmer for as long as you like, adding water as needed.

Notes

Works in a small dip-size crockpot (double or triple for a standard one). Refrigerate covered overnight to reuse next day. Safety: never leave unattended; don’t let it boil dry. Not for eating.
