Dried rose petals and lavender with herbs, citrus peel and spices, set with orris root and scented oil.
What You’ll Need
- 1/2 cup rose petals
- 1/2 cup lavender blossoms
- 1/2 cup sweet woodruff (optional)
- 1/2 cup pot marjoram leaves and blossoms (optional)
- 1/4 cup mint (optional)
- 2 teaspoons orange peel (optional)
- 2 teaspoons whole cloves (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed cinnamon stick (or 1/2 teaspoon dried cinnamon)
- 2 drops each of lavender and rose oils (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon powdered orrisroot (optional)
- Sealable glass jar
Equipment
- mixing bowl
- mason jars
Directions
- Dry the petals first by spreading them on newspaper or cardboard in a dry spot for several days.
- Stir together the first eight ingredients.
- Sprinkle the oils and orrisroot over the dry mix and stir well.
- Put it in a covered jar and stir gently after 24 hours. Ideally, let it sit for a week up to a month, giving the jar a gentle shake every few days, until the scents blend together.
- To scent a room, take the cover off the jar, and put it back on between uses so the potpourri regains its fragrance.
Notes
Also works in sachets. Not for eating; keep away from small children and pets (cloves, essential oils and some dried plants can be harmful if chewed). Orrisroot powder can irritate allergies.
