What You’ll Need

  • 1.5 cups Baking Soda
  • 10 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil
  • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 1/2 cup Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade
  • 3 Tablespoons of dehydrated Lemon Peel (ground to dust in a blender)
  • Mason jar; metal canning lid and ring; nail and hammer

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • mason jars

Directions

  1. Mix the baking soda, ground lemon peel and diatomaceous earth together in a mixing bowl.
  2. Pour into a regular-mouth mason jar.
  3. Drop in the grapefruit and lavender essential oils.
  4. Use a nail and hammer to punch plenty of holes in a metal canning lid.
  5. Screw the lid and ring onto the jar.

Notes

Lightly sprinkle on the carpet, leave for half an hour, then vacuum.
Safety: keep pets (especially cats) and kids out of the room until it is vacuumed, citrus and lavender oils are toxic to cats, and fine powders irritate lungs. Use only food-grade diatomaceous earth and avoid breathing the dust (it is drying to airways even though it harmless). Test on a hidden patch of carpet first. Label the jar not food.
