Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chili powder
  • 1/4 cup hickory-flavored salt
  • 3 tablespoons onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons cumin
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest

Equipment

  • zip-top bags
  • airtight jar

Directions

  1. Add all the ingredients to a large zip-top bag.
  2. Close it and shake until well blended.
  3. Pour into a clean spice jar or bottle with a tight lid.
  4. Use about 1 tablespoon per pound of meat; for vegetables and snacks, season to taste.

Notes

Store airtight in a cool, dry spot and use within 6 months. Use garlic powder and dried lemon zest; fresh would add moisture to the stored mix.
