Ingredients

  • 1 envelope taco seasoning mix
  • 1 envelope dry Italian dressing mix
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 liters cola
  • 2 to 3 pounds steaks

Equipment

  • mixing bowl

Directions

  1. Prick the steaks all over with a fork.
  2. Rub oil lightly over every side.
  3. Stir the taco and Italian dressing packets together and sprinkle evenly over the steaks.
  4. Set the steaks in a deep plastic or glass container.
  5. Pour cola around the steaks so they are surrounded.
  6. Cover tightly and refrigerate for 24 hours.
  7. Drain, then grill, sear, or broil.

Notes

The two dry packets can be mixed ahead and kept airtight in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months. Keep steaks refrigerated while they marinate. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours and eat them within 3 to 4 days. Safety: poking the steaks with a fork pushes surface bacteria inside, so cook them to at least 145°F and let them rest 3 minutes.
