Ingredients
- 3 cups quick-cooking oats
- Salt 1/8 tsp per packet
- Blender or food processor
- 8 small Ziploc baggies
Flavor add-ins (per packet)
- Apple-Cinnamon: 1 Tbsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, 2 Tbsp. chopped dried apples
- Blueberries & Cream: 1 Tbsp. non-dairy creamer 2 Tbsp. dried blueberries
- Brown Sugar/Cinnamon: 1 Tbsp. packed brown sugar 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- Cookies n Cream: 1 crushed Oreo 1 Tbsp. non-dairy creamer
- Exploding: 1 tsp. sugar, 1/2 tsp. Pop Rocks
- Health Nut: 2 Tbsp. wheat germ or 1 tsp. ground flax, or 2 tsp. chia seeds (use 1 cup water)
- Peaches & Cream: 1 Tbsp. non-dairy creamer 2 Tbsp. dried chopped peaches
- S’More: 6 mini marshmallows 1 Tbsp. milk chocolate chips
- Sweetened: 1 Tbsp. sugar or brown sugar (or 2 tsp. Splenda)
Equipment
- blender
- food processor
- zip-top bags
Directions
- Blend 1/2 cup oats on high speed until they turn to powder. Set that aside and repeat with another 1/2 cup. (In a food processor, you can do the whole cup at once.)
- Put 1/4 cup unpowdered oats, 2 Tbsp. powdered oats, and 1/8 tsp. salt into each baggie, along with the flavor add-ins.
- To serve, tip one packet into a bowl, pour in 3/4 cup boiling water, stir, and leave for 2 minutes. For thicker oatmeal use less water; for thinner, use more.
Notes
Packet math checks out: 8 x (1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp) = 3 cups. Non-dairy creamer, wheat germ, and ground flax can go rancid in shelf packets.
