Hot water, baking soda, salt and unscented soap. A liquid booster for families avoiding borax.
What You’ll Need
- 14 cups of hot water
- 1 cup of baking soda
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 1 cup of unscented liquid Castile soap
- 30 drops of lavender essential oil
- Gallon-sized jug
Equipment
- stockpot
Directions
- Stir 7 cups hot water, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup salt until dissolved (it turns cloudy and fizzy, then clear), and pour it into the jug.
- Do the same with the other 7 cups water, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup salt, and add it to the jug.
- Add the castile soap and lavender oil.
- Swirl gently, close the jug, add a label, and shake.
Notes
1/2 cup in the soap cup per load. Safety: shake before each use; label the jug and keep from kids (it looks like a drink jug once poured). Lavender oil can bother cats and sensitive skin — leave it out if needed. Don’t add vinegar to the same load (it cancels the soap).
