What You’ll Need

  • 2 cups washing soda or baking soda
  • 2 cups borax
  • 1/2 cup coarse salt or Epsom salt
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 20 drops lemon essential oil
  • Mixing bowl spoon, silicone mold with 2-tablespoon cavities

Equipment

  • mixing bowl

Directions

  1. Stir all the ingredients together well (the vinegar will fizz a little).
  2. Press firmly into the mold cavities.
  3. Let dry in a warm spot for 24 hours.
  4. Pop out once dry and hard, and keep airtight.

Notes

One pod in the detergent cup; optionally no more than 2 drops dish liquid for grease; set a shallow dish with about 1/2 cup white vinegar on the top rack.
Safety: dishwasher pods are not candy — store high, closed and labeled, away from kids and pets. Wear gloves (borax and washing soda irritate skin). Never more than 2 drops dish liquid (suds can flood the kitchen).
