What You’ll Need

  • Liquid cleaner (W or W/S fabrics): Water: 4 cups; Liquid dishwashing soap: ¼ cup; bucket mixer or whisk, soft brush or microfiber cloths
  • Dry cleaner (S or W/S fabrics): Isopropyl alcohol: 2 to 3 cups in a spray bottle; microfiber cloths; baking soda (optional)
  • Stain remover (W or W/S fabrics): White vinegar: 1 cup; Isopropyl alcohol: 1 cup; spray bottle

Equipment

  • mixing bowl

Directions

  1. Liquid: whisk the water and soap into thick suds; load the brush with suds (not water) and work them in gently from the top down; rinse and wring out the cloth often.
  2. Wipe each cleaned area with a lightly damp cloth, let it air dry, then vacuum to fluff the fabric.
  3. Dry: lightly spray one section with alcohol, rub with microfiber, let dry, and vacuum. For odors, sprinkle baking soda about ¼ inch thick, wait 30 to 60 minutes, and vacuum.
  4. Stain remover: mix vinegar and alcohol, spray on the stain, wait 1 to 2 minutes, and dab with microfiber; repeat gently as needed.

Notes

For leather, dilute alcohol 4 parts water to 1 part alcohol.
Safety: test a hidden spot first; don’t soak the fabric; work gently. Also: isopropyl alcohol is flammable, ventilate, no flames or smoking nearby; keep kids and pets away until dry.
