What You’ll Need

  • Mason jar (or baby food jar or other glass jar)
  • Distilled water
  • Glycerin (or baby oil) — “a few drops”
  • Glitter (fine, biodegradable, or holographic) and/or artificial snow
  • Waterproof figurine or mini tree (non-metallic)
  • Waterproof adhesive (E6000 or Gorilla waterproof adhesive) or hot glue gun
  • Optional: fabric and twine for the lid, ribbon, stickers, beads

Equipment

  • mason jars
  • hot glue gun

Directions

  1. Glue a small winter figurine or tree to the underside of the lid.
  2. Let the glue dry completely before you add water (“at least 24 hours if using epoxy”).
  3. Fill the jar with water, then add a few drops of glycerin and some glitter.
  4. Screw the lid on tight, turn the jar upside down, and shake.
  5. Optional: cover the lid with fabric and twine to make it a gift.

Notes

Tips : use waterproof, non-metallic figurines (metal rusts); use distilled water (tap water clouds over time); too much glycerin or glitter clumps at the bottom; seal the lid edges with hot glue or waterproof tape. Safety: glycerin/water globes are glass and can leak or break; keep away from small children.
