Grout cleaner

A baking soda and peroxide paste lifts the dirt from grout.

  1. The recipe

    Baking soda and peroxide paste

    You need

    • 1/4 cup baking soda
    • 1/4 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide
    • A stiff (not metal) brush

    How

    1. Mix equal parts into a paste and spread it on the grout.
    2. Let it sit about an hour, then scrub with the brush.
    3. Wipe up with a damp cloth, rinsing well.

Mix fresh; do not store it. Skip chlorine bleach, which can permanently discolor grout. Peroxide can lighten colored grout, so test first.

  2. Another recipe

    Lighter cleaning

    You need

    • Hot water, or equal parts hot water and white vinegar

    How

    1. Spray on the grout and wait 5 to 10 minutes.
    2. Scrub and rinse.
    3. Optional: let the grout dry overnight, then seal it.

Not on natural stone tile, and use vinegar on grout only now and then.
