Microwave steam cleaner

Steam loosens stuck-on food so it wipes right off.

  1. The recipe

    Vinegar steam

    You need

    • 1 cup white vinegar
    • 1 cup warm water
    • Glass measuring cup or microwave-safe bowl
    • A wooden spoon or skewer to set in it

    How

    1. Put the vinegar and water in the bowl with the wooden spoon in it (it helps stop boil-overs).
    2. Microwave 5 to 10 minutes, depending on your microwave.
    3. Carefully remove the bowl with an oven mitt, then wipe the door and inside; the steam has loosened the mess.

Very hot liquid can erupt: keep the spoon in and stand back when you open the door. Never microwave a dry sponge or one with metal fibers.

  2. Another recipe

No vinegar: lemon and a wet sponge

    You need

    • A saturated sponge
    • A few ounces of water and 3 to 5 drops lemon oil (or lemon juice) in a spray bottle

    How

    1. Spray the inside with the lemon water.
    2. Microwave the wet sponge about 2 minutes, leave the door closed a few minutes, then wipe with the sponge once it is cool enough.

Let the sponge cool before touching it.
