Upholstery cleaner

Check the cleaning code on the tag first: W means water is fine, S means solvent only.

  1. The recipe

Soap suds (W or W/S fabric)

    You need

    • 4 cups water
    • 1/4 cup liquid dish soap
    • A whisk or bucket mixer, a soft brush and microfiber cloths

    How

    1. Whisk the water and soap into thick suds.
    2. Load the brush with suds, not water, and work gently from the top down.
    3. Wipe each area with a lightly dampened cloth, let it air dry, then vacuum to fluff.

Test a hidden spot and do not soak the fabric.

  2. Another recipe

Dry method (S or W/S fabric)

    You need

    • 2 to 3 cups isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle
    • Microfiber cloths
    • Baking soda (optional, for odors)

    How

    1. Lightly spray one section with alcohol, rub with microfiber, let dry, then vacuum.
    2. For odors, sprinkle baking soda about 1/4 inch thick, wait 30 to 60 minutes and vacuum.

Alcohol is flammable: open a window, no flames or smoking, keep children and pets away until dry.

  3. Another recipe

Stain spray (W or W/S fabric)

    You need

    • 1 cup white vinegar
    • 1 cup isopropyl alcohol
    • A spray bottle

    How

Test first. For leather, dilute alcohol 4 parts water to 1 part alcohol.
