What You’ll Need

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup washing soda
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup liquid castile soap
  • 1/4 teaspoon tea tree essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide (optional)
  • 16 ounce glass jar with lid

Equipment

  • mixing bowl

Directions

  1. Stir the baking soda, washing soda and salt together in a small bowl.
  2. Slowly stir in the castile soap until it forms a fine paste.
  3. Mix in the essential oil, and the peroxide if using.

Notes

Optional: first spray the tub with 50-50 vinegar and water to soften soap scum. Scoop a little onto a sponge and scrub; rinse well.
Safety: wear gloves (washing soda is caustic to skin); tea tree oil is toxic to pets; if adding peroxide, store in a vented or loosely capped jar out of light (it can build pressure). Test on fiberglass, acrylic and natural stone first. Label the jar.
