Ingredients

Base (Easy Overnight Oats)
  • ½ cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • ½ cup milk I like unsweetened almond milk
  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt or ¼ cup more milk
  • 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey or your preferred sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds optional
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla optional
  • pinch of sea salt
  • toppings of choice: fruit nut butter, nuts, seeds, etc.
Berry variation
  • ¼ cup fresh berries I like sliced strawberries and blueberries best
  • 1 Tablespoon strawberry jam or chia jam

Equipment

  • airtight jar

Directions

  1. Put the oats, milk, yogurt, maple syrup, chia seeds, vanilla and sea salt in a jar or storage container with a lid and stir together. Chill overnight. If you are in a hurry, you can cut the soak time to 2-4 hours.
  2. For the berry version: mix 2 Tablespoons of berries into the oat mixture as you prepare it, then add a layer of jam and the rest of the fresh berries on top.
  3. The next morning (or whenever you are ready to eat), take off the lid and stir the oats well. If they look too thick, loosen them with a little more milk. Add the toppings you like best and enjoy.

Notes

Covered in the refrigerator up to 5 days; best days 1 to 3, still safe days 4 and 5. Safety: no honey for babies under 1.
