Bird droppings on a car

Bird droppings are acidic and can mark paint, so clean them fast and never dry.

  1. Try this first

    Soften, then blot

Soak the dropping with car shampoo, a waterless wash or quick detailer, or plain warm water if that is all you have, and wait a few minutes. For a baked-on spot, lay a soaked microfiber cloth over it for 5 to 10 minutes. Dab gently, do not rub, dry with a clean microfiber and re-wax the spot.

Never wipe it dry or scrape it: that can leave a permanent mark. Heat softens paint, so be quick in warm weather.

  2. Then try

    Bird-dropping wipes

A bird-dropping wipe or an automotive cleaner made for paintwork works too: lay it over the dropping to loosen it, then lift it off gently, using a clean part of the wipe if needed.

Skip household cleaners and baking soda on car paint.
