Tea

Tea is a tannin stain, so rinse with cool water, not hot.

  1. Try this first

    Cool water, then detergent

Rinse the stain promptly in cool water. Pretreat by soaking in an enzyme laundry detergent, or rub in liquid heavy-duty detergent or a paste of detergent powder and water. Launder with chlorine bleach if the fabric allows it, or an oxygen bleach if not.

Test any stain remover on a hidden seam or hem first, and check the care label.

  2. Then try

    Vinegar soak

Soak for 15 minutes in 1 quart warm water with 1/2 teaspoon liquid dish detergent and 1 tablespoon white vinegar. Rinse and launder. If a stain is left, use a bleach the fabric allows.

  3. Then try

For an older stain, an enzyme soak

Sponge or soak in cool water, then pretreat with a pre-wash stain remover, liquid detergent or a paste of detergent powder and water. An older stain may respond better to an enzyme pretreatment or soak. Launder with chlorine bleach if the fabric allows it, or with oxygen bleach.

Check the care label and test a hidden spot first. Do not put the item in the dryer until the stain is gone.
