Poison ivy oil on clothes

The oil stays on clothes and can give you a rash again, so wash them with care.

  1. Try this first

Handle with gloves and wash apart

Wear gloves to take the clothes off and put them straight in a bag, without touching your skin. Wash them alone in the hottest water the care label allows with a heavy-duty detergent. Wash the gloves, boot laces and tools the same way, or wipe them with soapy water.

Do not hug the clothes or carry them against your skin. Run the empty washer through a cycle afterward. If you have a rash, call your doctor or Poison Control, 1-800-222-1222.

  2. Then try

    Your skin

Rinse skin as soon as you can with lukewarm water and soap. The sooner the oil comes off, the better.

Still there? Try the all-purpose ways or pick another stain.
