Tarnish on brass and copper

Tarnish is a chemical film. A little acid and a gentle scrub takes it off.

  1. Try this first

    Salt and lemon for copper

Sprinkle salt on a cut lemon half and rub the copper until the tarnish lifts. Rinse and dry well.

Do not use on lacquered brass or on antique pieces you want to keep their patina. Test a hidden spot first.

  2. Then try

Vinegar, salt and flour paste for brass

Mix white vinegar, salt and flour into a paste, spread it on, leave up to an hour, then rinse and buff dry.

Do not use on lacquered or plated brass.
