Red wine on carpet

Blot at once, from the edge toward the middle.

  1. Try this first

    Blot, then cool water

Blot up as much as you can with a clean white cloth. Pour a little cool water on the spot and keep blotting until the cloth comes up almost clean.

Test on a hidden corner first. Blot, never rub, and do not soak: wet padding and backing can mold.

  2. Then try

    Dish soap solution

Mix 1 teaspoon of clear dish soap in 1 cup of cool water. Dab it on, wait 5 minutes and blot. Rinse by dabbing with plain water and blot dry.

  3. Then try

    Still pink?

Dab on 3 percent hydrogen peroxide mixed half and half with water, wait a few minutes and blot. Rinse with plain water.

Peroxide can lighten colored and wool carpet. Test first.

Still there? Try the all-purpose ways or pick another stain.
